As a follow-up to our post in March on improving teaching in the home, we felt the need to share some more recent content on the topic and other ideas you might consider.
In case you missed the Elder Uchtdorf broadcast on Teaching in the Savior’s Way from this summer, you’ll find the video below (if you don’t have time for the full broadcast, Elder Uchtdorf’s message goes from the 18 to the 48 minute mark). Note that the Teaching in the Savior’s Way resource was re-done, and the new version is available online and in the Gospel Library app under the “Come, Follow Me” section.
In the broadcast, Elder Uchtdorf talks about the importance of pilots using a pre-flight checklist, and how as teachers, we should use the 1-page checklist provided in the updated Teaching in the Savior’s Way as a pre-teaching checklist:
Improving as a Christlike Teacher—A Personal Evaluation (PDF)
We encourage all to use this checklist in your assigned callings as teachers, and as you teach the gospel in your home. It would also be a great resource to refer to and become familiar with if you have youth preparing for missions or teaching Sunday lessons, or teaching part of your home “Come, Follow Me” lessons.
We challenge each of you to re-double your efforts in your homes with respect to your “Come, Follow Me” studies both individually and as a family. If you need some motivation, check out this quick video of President Nelson talking about how the Lord loves effort!
We know that your efforts to study the gospel under the “Come, Follow Me” program will be greatly rewarded. Here are the Prophet’s promised blessings from putting effort into the “Come, Follow Me” program:
- your Sabbath days will be a delight,
- your children will be excited to learn and live the Savior’s teachings,
- the influence of the adversary in your life and in your home will decrease, and
- these changes in your family will be dramatic and sustaining.
Lastly, please inquire of those you minister to, to see how they are doing with the “Come, Follow Me” program. Invite with love if you feel promptings on how to help them. We can all follow the Savior’s example as we encourage and help one another to better ourselves through this inspired program.
